Slowing Down -- Favorite Podcast

Oh, my goodness -- I made it! Today, is the last Friday of the school year. I feel as rung out as a dishrag after forty weeks of learning, teaching, testing, reading. I am so looking forward to the re-charge that summer brings...after just a few days next week.

One of my favorite memes from social media ...

Can I get an AMEN?

One of the things that helped me get to school with a smile on my face each morning the last half of this year was a podcast called, The Slowdown with US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith.

Because I listen to Smith while driving, I can only concentrate on the conversation she is having with me and the audible words and sounds of the poems she reads each day. However, I can tell you that often, I am scribbling snippets of what sticks with me in my notebook later.

Each podcast is no longer than 5 or 6 minutes in length. Smith introduces a poem with some background information on the poet or the piece and then reads it in her delightful, rich voice.

If you haven't discovered The Slowdown yet, I hope you will give it a try. It will enrich your listening and writing day.

What podcasts do you love? Please drop me your favorites in the comment section.

Our friend Michelle is hosting the Poetry Round-Up today. Take a peek at all the wonderful poetry that's waiting for you there. And, happy summer!

  2. What a treat to find your blog featuring Tracy K. Smith also Linda! I was thinking about sending a call for more poems celebrating Smith, but time got away from me. I don't know if I could pick out a favorite I do like the poem I posted, BEEHIVE by Jean Toomer.

Amen or as I like to say Awomen for having the summer to recover–I'd love to have that but I teach year round. I will have a wee bit more time for a few of my classes didn't fill this session. Here's to sailing off with the lovely boat art you created!

  6. Thrilled for your weeks ahead to revive, recover, refresh after the 2018-2019 marathon dear Linda.

And thank you for adding to the Tracy K. Smith joy. I received WADE IN THE WATER as part of a goody back last year & feel elevated by it.

I didn't know about the LOC/Tracy K. Smith podcast until Michelle's blog this week & I'm glad you are underlining how nourishing they are. Must try them out.

  11. Now that we've moved, I have an hour commute three days a week and am always looking for podcasts. I look forward to listening to The Slowdown. I also enjoy the TED Radio Hour and Throughline from NPR and Jen Hatmaker's For the Love podcasts.

  12. First off -- AMEN! Definitely not off, but in recovery. Especially this year. My morning drive podcast lineup starts with The Slowdown, BirdNote, and then either It's Been a Minute with Sam Sanders or Pop Culture Happy Hour. The perfect antidotes for a depressing news cycle. Happy summer to you, friends. 9 days to go for me! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
