Writing from Reading #NPM

Hello Friends,

Happy Poetry Friday. I hope you are enjoying this month of poetry celebration as much as I am.

Some Aprils I challenge myself to a daily project to keep up with as a poet. This year, I'm flitting around the projects of other poets as a reader.

One of those poets is Tabatha who is hosting our Poetry Friday round-up this week at The Opposite of Indifference. She is learning languages and challenges poets to write a poem in two languages. Wow, right?

Here is a poem in two languages inspired by visits to Michelle Barns' Today's Little Ditty who's April Poetry project is Filling the Well.

Mary Lee Hahn is keeping a beautiful #haikudiary at A Year of Reading. I try to keep up.

Laura Purdie Salas is writing equation poems. Every time I see one, I want to write one too...or, is that two?

And, Hamish has new friends this week over on his padlet. After reading Jone McCullough's interview with Alan Wolf about his new book, The Snow Fell Three Graves Deep, (2020. Penguin Random House) about the Donner Party, I had to find out more about oxen that were in the party. They have some hindsight advice, in the tone of Gwendolyn Brooks, for humans of 1846.

Tell me how your NPM is going!

  1. First of all, I can't believe it is Thursday and I am commenting on PF! LOL!Hooray. It's been great writing week: another interview, writing in English and Scottish Gaelic (I might have to create a Padlet for my poems, revising poems, and working on my WIP. I feel so satisfied. Tomorrow, hubs and I are going to investigate a river, camera in hand. Glad that you found the oxen in Wolf's book, Have a great weekend.

  2. I love how you are dipping in everywhere. Those kite equation poems are great. I have been trying to keep up with Ethical ELA but my travels this week got in the way. I'm glad I didn't take on a daily project. I an really enjoying reading others.

  5. What a rich full NPM you're having! I am filling my writing notebook each day with wonderment from this community... and I've got my thumb in a few poetry projects, too, though all too tender yet to share. I DID write and submit an octo poem, so thank you again for that! xo

  9. Isn't that the most evocative phrase? "Three graves deep." Oof.
I'm so impressed with all of us pulling out our second languages to give poetry a go. I think I'm going to continue to play with that this week. Thanks for sharing yours!

  11. Wow, Linda, so much creativity! And in so many different directions! Amazing stuff, all of this! I love that you're telling those people to turn back. I wish I could say that to many people - hindsight is good that way.

  13. Your poem oozes tranquility Linda. Sit, be still, take times to breathe in all that is around you. Some sound advice gently delivered.

  15. So much fun stuff to be inspired by--glad to see you are taking full advantage. I am particularly taken with your line haz de luz por haz de luz (but in English because I am unfortunately monolingual.)

  16. Linda, I have always been interested by the Donner Party incident so when you write Hamish into the scene tell me. I am so busy here with unpacking, organizing, and now throwing into the mix, Derek's disability documents. We seem to drive to Manassas. Happy Writing!
