Happy September, Friends
Thank you,Teacher Dance, for hosting our Poetry Friday roundup today. This month, my youngest child enters the last of his teens. Where has the time gone? School is in full swing north to south, east to west in the USA and, the Inklings share a challenge from Margaret:
...Choose a photo from the month of This Photo Wants to be a Poem and share your poem and your process...
I chose this beautiful photo by Kim Douillard posted to Reflections on the Teche on July 6th. I've heard, read...somehow learned...that the word "dance" is used a LOT in poems. I try to find a synonym for the word whenever I can...but this time it just fits.

Oh I love this photo - and this dance - and agree it is the perfect word here! Thanks for the smile :)
ReplyDeleteI could take pictures of egrets all day long, Linda. This is a beauty & I don't mind the word "dance" at all. I also love "beak to the breeze". I do love that song, too. It stays with me all the month! And, yes, how the time goes. My grandson turned 21 a few weeks ago - amazing. Thanks for a lovely start to PF!
ReplyDeleteThis egret of Kim's is a funny fellow, and dance is the just right word. I also love your other word choices (bob, weave, beak to the breeze). And of course I remember September.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard that about the (over)use of "dance" in poems...I suspect "song," too...I know I use that a lot! Good idea to stretch our language...also good to use the word that best fits. Thank you, Linda. xo
ReplyDeleteI could boogie down all day to the beat of your poem! Fun!!
ReplyDeleteI would like to watch Mary Lee boogieing down all day to the egret's beat...this is just the combo of words and pic to get the day going!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo and poem! I love the rhythm of your poem--makes me want to dance, too! And your padlet Golden Shovel is a terrific tribute to the song.
ReplyDeleteThe photo is such a delight for a cross your feet beat. Beak to the breeze is a favorite line, Linda. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow this egret is sooo happy, I can feel him shuffling his feet and wouldn't mind joining him, and you captured his feelings perfectly in your poem Linda. I think he hears you singing along with Earth, Wind and Fire… Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour poem is such a great match to this photo--and so different from Margaret's. I love how you two responded to the same photo in such different ways. As you know "beak to the breeze" is my favorite line :) This whole poem is such a fun read!
ReplyDeleteI love that song, too, Linda - but not as much as your step-strutting egret!
ReplyDeleteLinda, wonderful Earth, Wind, and Fire song. I will be singing that too now, thanks to you posting the lyrics. I loved your stealing the starlight golden shovel. We can't hold onto it, can we?
ReplyDeleteYou are right--the egret dance was needed. You captured those crossed feet perfectly.
