Postcards '18 Write the poem you wish to read

This week's Poetry Friday round-up is hosted by our friend Carol at Beyond Literacy. Pop over and say hello. If you're lucky, her vivacious creativity will rub off on you.

I love the 2018 Poetry Postcard Exchange!

Over the course of the past week, I've searched for poems about postcards to share in the celebration of this year's exchange. There are quite a few poems about postcards at The Poetry Foundation and at Poem Hunter and in various corners of Google. None really suited me.

You know what that means, right?  It means I had to write the poem I was looking for.

Lately, I've been playing around with 'definition' poems. This is just what I call them. I have no idea if there is a proper form to call what I've been writing. If there is---I'd love to know!

Thank you, poets! I so enjoy your creative postcards.

What things call out to you for re-definition through your eyes as a poet. I'd love for you to share in comments.

  1. Sometimes you read something and it forever changes how you see something. "Paper portal" just did this for me! And that diminishing line....sigh! Happy Poetry Postcard Friday! xx

  3. Linda, I love thinking of poetry postcards as paper portals. Now that I have posted the Poetry Friday Roundup, I can concentrate on getting my own postcards printed and off. Stay tuned for the breadcrumbs to reach you and take you farther on your journey. Thanks for the wishes.

  4. Glad you penned your own poem Linda! And having this postcard exchange gives us a good excuse to exercise squeezing thoughts in "between lines--," in between our busy lives–so glad we all did, thanks!

  5. I love that you wrote the poem you wanted to find! Paper portal, bread crumbs for our journey... "The just right words in the just right order."

  6. For some reason my head translated your post title to "Be the poem you wish to see in the world," which I think you do, Linda! Like the others, I'm into "paper portals."

  7. From paper portals to breadcrumbs for our journey--your definition of the postcard exchange is spot on. And I have enjoyed your definition poems. I'd like to try some myself. I've considered sending on some of the postcards I've received to share the fun and inspiration even further, but I'm not sure I can part with your map postcards. If I do, it will be for someone very special.

  8. There is so much about this that I love...paper portal, squeezed between the lines, and the wishing lines. I love this idea of a definition poem, and I just might have to try it out myself.

  12. The swap was fun, wasn't it? I only wish I had signed up to share with everyone. I took it slow for my first year. And yes, I agree that sometimes you just have to write your own poem! Thanks for sharing these! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
