Happy Poetry Friday!
My family is traveling this week and we are having fun exploring a new city. I'm having fun collecting odd-ball photos of sculpture, grafitti, murals, signs and fun words. I thought I'd leave some clues about where we are in the form of riddle-ku.

i thought i'd be cold
but your summer sun welcomed
me with open arms

you've had many names
narrows, plenty, meeting place
blue jays shout out all

walking the city
all the many faces pass
each a work of art

If you haven't guessed yet...the answer is we are having a fabulous time in Toronto, Canada.

My first guess was that you were somewhere in Canada. The image of water and city made me think of my city, Vancouver, but we've been cold. I should have figured it out with blue jays. I enjoyed these and hope you enjoy your time here!
ReplyDeleteWe are LOVING Toronto—waiting on Korean BBQ now
DeleteLove your Riddle-Ku poems, and I hope you have a lovely vacation!
ReplyDeleteI first thought up north (which in Michigan is northern michigan/UP, farther north than Toronto!) but your blue jays put me on the right path. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteWell, I knew it had to be some place colder than Virginia but I did not guess correctly. Toronto is a wonderful city that I visited when my children were younger. Riddle-kus are so much fun to read so thank you for your clues in the form of poetry, Linda. This week, I am posting my clunker poem that I am happy to say that polished your words and placed them into a reproduced product.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's grandmother was from Toronto. I've always wanted to visit. I love all the sculpture and art. My kind of city. Your riddle-kus are just right and clever.
ReplyDeleteI think you wrote riddle-ku one other holiday... right? I'm no better at guessing this time ... until the maple gave it away. (Part marks for 'Canada', right?) Enjoy your travels, and family time. (I shared your lovely poetry journal on my blog today.)
ReplyDeleteI saw that, Kat! I'm not sure what to say to so much praise except wow and THANKS!
DeleteI love your collection of photos and riddleku. I was guessing north, but had not narrowed it down more than that. Enjoy your travels and explorations!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post Linda– I thought I saw some columns/ruins in the first set of pictures and thought perhaps you were in Greece, but the cold in your first poem didn't fit. You pulled me in with your Riddle-Ku poems, and the photo collages are wonderful. Thanks for all the treats, enjoy the trip!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so lovely! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're having fun and making memories!
ReplyDeleteI am not good with baseball teams and first thought St Louis! But I remembered they were the Cardinals. Glad you are having a great time -- LOVE your haiku! ❤
ReplyDeleteLinda has the most discerning, clever, curious eye! And we clearly don't know nearly enough about our northern neighbor (but then I read once that a majority of Americans can't find CANADA on a map). Your riddleku were intriguing and I feel guilty that I couldn't guess...https://www.buzzfeed.com/tanyachen/americans-fail-canada-again (but I'm suspicious because the handwriting on these maps doesn't look like American handwriting!)
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time. I didn't guess correctly, although I did figure it was north since you anticipated cold weather. I love the collages you've created. Happy traveling!
ReplyDeleteI've visited Toronto a couple times (even wrote some haiku there) but you've managed to find art that's new to me, Linda. It's a big city, I guess. ;) Hmmm... hold on, let me see if I can find a haiku or two from my time in Toronto... Okay, here are two from Queens Park:

Oh, that's great! Walked past Queen's Park today. We have perfect weather for a visit. Home soon. :(
