I've pondered over you this week...wondering until late what I would post. Keeping focused has been a task. I'm thankful that Irene is hosting our poetry round-up at Live Your Poem. Her Butterfly Hours Memoir Project has been rich reading. She is a constant inspiration.

Early this week, teacher Paul Hankins posted this interview from TIME Magazine on facebook.
"Learning to listen," these words of Joy Harjo spoke to me. Thanks for sharing the article about her Linda, I'm very fond of her poems. What an honor it is to have her as our Poet Laureate. Your introduction in your poem is very keen, and then it takes a turn, and you close by inviting in a "Dream," lovely!
ReplyDeleteJoy Harjo's wise words are perfect for a golden shovel, and your's is wonderful, Linda! "You've brought your heart and eyes" is exactly right.
ReplyDeleteLinda, the quote is just right for this time of year. You wove a beautiful text of crossing over from a suburban perch into a poet's thoughts. It is amazing to me how a golden shovel allows for deep introspection and a different point of view to showcase thought. Yours is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLinda, this is so so beautiful! Thank you for your heart and eyes. xo
ReplyDeleteI want to repeat everyone else's words, Linda. This is wonderful and feels like a welcome hug for us, from you and from Joy Harjo! "She holds it open" is just perfect. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely poem, Linda! I especially love the last 5 lines. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda, you've written such a beautiful, nuanced golden shovel. I agree with Jama that the last five lines are especially wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a rich and generous post, Linda - thank you for letting us tag along.
ReplyDelete"... without/property lines between words" - powerful!
What a heartwarming response poem, Linda. I would bet if Joy Harjo read it, she would show her appreciation with a hug. I'm still swooning over this: "Come to the trees. They are ripe and full. From first ‘til last light we pick poems..."
ReplyDeleteJust Wow! Your poem and Joy's interview fill my heart with hope and love this morning. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Linda! Well done! I recently listend to an Oprah's Supersoul Conversations podcast with Joy Harjo. She is so interesting and such an immense talent and inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight to read your golden shovel. I've been thrilled to have our first Native American Poet Laureate and she's from my home state too! I love these lines:
ReplyDelete"...You’ve
brought a heart and eyes. Come
to the trees. They are ripe and full. From
first ‘til last light we pick poems – dreaming."
Oh, Linda, this is beautiful! "You've brought a heart and eyes." So lovely and so true.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, what an inspired poem. I just read Joy Harjo's Crazy Brave earlier this year and fell in love with her words. She is all kinds of wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFrost is so down to earth, it makes yearn for less harried days when neighbors did talk with each other more. I love this poem, Linda. Several rich lines stand out for me. I love this idea: "wide open poetry without
ReplyDeleteproperty lines between words." And this one: "From
first ‘til last light we pick poems – dreaming." Well done!
