Thanks to Robyn Hood Black, Children's Author, Poet and Artist and her blog, Life on the Deckle Edge, we can all enjoy this week's round-up of Poetry Friday contributions.
One celebration is a Progressive Poem that has been growing line by line each day of April. This annual project was created six years ago by author/poet Irene Latham at her blog, Live Your Poem.
I've summoned courage to jump in with a line on lucky April 13. Yikes!
Before authors began this year's poem, Heidi Mordhorst at My Juicy Little Universe interviewed Irene and, Elizabeth Steinglass who kicked off our 2018 with a first line. If you aren't familiar with the Progressive Poem Project it's worth a few minutes with Heidi's interview to see this year's challenge and twist.
Heidi asked us to record our thoughts about line one to reflect on later. My thoughts about this year's first line are in the bottom right corner of my journal page in blue.
Here is the poem thus far with my line for day 13. Enjoy clicking on each line to find the author's thoughts on their contribution. I am just tickled to share this story poem with other poets who I truly admire and even fan girl over....without further ado....the poem.

I didn't have the "courage" to join this year... but I'm watching and reading with great interest. Love the story that is unfolding. I'm wondering if Jasmine will make it to Lee's party???
ReplyDeleteWhat a SURPRISE for this Surprise Party day! That is too fun, Linda. And I'm so impressed with your digital journaling... :0) Thanks for this contribution!
ReplyDeleteLinda I love your line, it's so funny, and unexpected, but of course why wouldn't they want to attend this Birthday Bash! I like the dialogue of the seed at rest, and the analogy to kids growing as they rest, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLinda, you created a fun place for little Jasmine to travel. Children always love birthday parties. I'm glad that I was able to lead into your lucky 13 surprise line. Your digital journal is a great example of a place to explore your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant move, inserting the man who's done so much for children's poetry into our poem!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I love that you brought Lee and his birthday party into the poem! We will never forget it, will we?? (Name insertions have happened a few times over the years... we've had a "Robyn" and an "Irene" and maybe more?) FUN! Thank you, LInda, for being part of this crazyfun adventure! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your digital journal. What a great way to keep track of all the riches of Poetry Friday. I so often struggle to remember where I read or heard something. You've inspired me to get a bit more organized about it. Thanks also for contributing to the ongoing fun in the Progressive Poem. Who doesn't love a party?
ReplyDeleteSurprise! I did not see this coming, Linda. I think your direction/naming our Lee (or a Lee)
ReplyDeleteis brilliant. More than ever, so excited to see where Jasmine zooms to. Love.
That is a surprise! A bit of the real world in this fantastic, stardrop one. I enjoyed seeing your digital journal, Linda. Cool!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's a special site for a "heavenly" party, Linda. Wishing them a smooth ride! Your journal is wonderful and the links to everyone's post. What a lot of time you spent making this great post. Happy Friday, the 13th & the birthday celebration!
ReplyDeleteWhat a twist to introduce! Love the digital journal.
ReplyDeleteUnexpected and delightful, Linda!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dream our little seed has been having, so much fun and new friends, too! And now a party!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a clever idea to steer the poem to the birthday celebration. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you included the birthday party in the poem. It's been such fun to watch it grow and grow and grow!
ReplyDeleteWonderful that you keep a digital journal. It's fun to peek at your pages and remind myself of a couple of upcoming events.
ReplyDeleteAnd the flight to Lee's birthday party is a delightful turn in our progressive poem. Who doesn't love a party?

ReplyDeleteI've missed keeping up with the poem for a few days--glad to catch up, and what a wonderful turn to include Lee's party!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness--I love the spontaneity of going to Lee Bennett Hopkins' birthday part! Win!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Jasmine was invited to the party, too. I think that's appropriate. Don't you? I'm terrified of adding my line next week. No fingernails left! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteWell, what a great line to add, Linda. I hope they saved some stardrops for Lee. Always good to share at a party! (Whatever they might be.) I want to learn more about your digital journaling. Sounds like a great tool/idea. Where does this poem go next, always fun.
ReplyDeleteI just snip/grab what I want to save and paste it into a power point. I also draft poems in power point. I keep a separate journal for each month. I usually have 50-60 slides by the end of a month. I enjoy going back for ideas later.
DeleteHmmm...I wonder how Lee is going to fit into this adventure!
ReplyDeleteI think my earlier comment got lost in cyberspace - or maybe it was whisked away in Owl's talons. I too am wondering what Heidi is going to make of this surprise development. And I'm also curious about what platform you're using for your journal - because I am always wishing I could remember where I saw something that caught my attention online.

DeleteSo late with my comment, Linda--when I saw this gobsmacking development I was thrown into a tizzy which caused me to forget to actually write something! Thanks for the challenge, and after I took in your line I got to wondering how you were recording all those snips and clips, and look, it turns out you explained it! But like others I ask: what app or tool are you using? Getting down to business now....
ReplyDeleteI am laughing with delight over your line and how you got Lee's birthday in there. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! Of COURSE she's at Lee's party. EVERYONE is at Lee's party, even wee Jasmine. Love. And now I going to go back to comments to see what it is you do with your cool journal. It must be there! xx
ReplyDeleteI did not see that coming, but of course Jasmine would want to go to a birthday party, and how appropriate that it is Lee's! Your journal is very smart. Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteHooray! A Party! Thanks for your line. :)
