Progressive Poem 2020

Good Morning Poets!

Our poem is making its way through the kidlitosphere day by day. It's hard to believe we are already up to day12!

So far, our poem has been packed with lots of choice. Donna Smith kicked off this year's event with a choose your own line adventure.

Here's how our poem has taken shape thus far including Janet Fagal's last line (hosted by Margaret Simon at Reflections on the Teche):

Sweet violets shimmy, daffodils sway
along the wiregrass path to the lake.
I carry a rucksack of tasty cakes
and a banjo passed down from my gram.
I follow the tracks of deer and raccoon
and echo the call of a wandering loon.
A whispering breeze joins in our song.
and night melts into a rose gold dawn.
Deep into nature’s embrace, I fold.
Promise of spring helps shake the cold

Janet has given me a choice for the next line of the poem. And, while it's difficult as a "I'll take a small slice of each," kind of gal, I have decided on...

Hints of sun lightly dapple the trees
(choice A)

I whistle, then whisper a snippet of poem  (choice B)

Sweet violets shimmy, daffodils sway
along the wiregrass path to the lake.
I carry a rucksack of tasty cakes
and a banjo passed down from my gram.

I follow the tracks of deer and raccoon
and echo the call of a wandering loon.
A whispering breeze joins in our song.
and night melts into a rose gold dawn.

Deep into nature’s embrace, I fold.
Promise of spring helps shake the cold
hints of sun lightly dapple the trees

I now send this poem off to the very capable and creative writing of Kat Apel at Kat Whiskers with these two lines to choose from:

there's a song to be heard upon the breeze (choice A)

calling out the sleepy bees (choice B)

Go, Kat Go!

Here’s where you can find all the contributors to this year’s Progressive Poem. It’s a fine journey and I hope you will leave a comment or two along the way. It is always nice to hear from readers and other poets:

  1. The world of nature is a blessed place and now I love that continued song, but yes also to bees. What great choices you've sent to Kat, Linda! Happy Easter!

  2. I love the line you chose with its dapple of sun. Isn't it nice to have a rhyme to work with? Each of your choices works well. Thanks for playing along on this happy day of Easter. Resurrection happens!

  4. This is going beautifully! Nice to dip in and see it again--I saw it on day 3 or so. Love your two choices, especially the bees.

  5. I have not checked in for several days, but I like how this is going. I love the choices you have given Kat. I look forward to see where this goes as my day approaches.

  6. I am loving this nature walk. Once again the next poet has two great choices. Which will Kat choose? I’m still trying to decide if the choices make it easier or harder.

  7. Linda, thank you for sharing part of your Easter day with two interesting choices for Kat. Will it be the sweet sound of the breeze or those sleepy bees? I did not have so much luck a few summers ago when I woke up a whole hive.

  8. Hi Linda, I have been so busy socially distancing today (Walmart food pick up in complete mask and gloves, family Skype dinner, online church services!) ! Finally I get to see which way you went and I love it. And your two choices are perfect and either will fit in beautifully with this sweet walk. Oh to see and read where we will go. Janet F.

  9. Thank-you, Linda! With our different timezones, I had just returned from an early morning paddle down the creek when I checked in to see if the Progressive Poem had made it to your blog yet... and it had! My choice is made.🐝 And, I'd have to say, getting to write two possible lines made for my quickest contribution ever to the poem. But, that morning paddle may have helped there, too...

  10. Hi, Linda! Catching up with the poem and happy to see what you chose from Janet, and to see you offer two good lines that keep the rhyme going. I hope Kat's post-paddle additon brings some ACTION!
