Tonight's Poem

Hello Poets.

Happy end of this week. I'm looking forward to the weekend to prepare for the coming holidays.

The poem below was inspired by this painting/illustration by Graham Franciose found on Twitter.

Thank you, Jama for hosting our Poetry Friday round-up!

  1. This is lovely, Linda - a perfect complement to the image. I loved the imagery of 'November people/bundled in puffy coats'.

  2. Such a great match Linda, your poem and the art, they must have been made with stardust…I like "their worries zipped up/ and tucked in tight" easy to forget your worries as you walk through the frigid air, perhaps that's the positive side of it, lovely, thanks!

  3. Love both the poem and art -- so enchanting!! I especially like the notion of hand cut stars. :)

  4. Linda: Love this poem, this image. Beautiful! What caught me were the worries, tucked in and zipped up tight. We carry such weight. And, for some reason, I first thought she was harvesting stars from the sky... yikes. I like your take better. Thanks for this, and happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Ooh, Linda. This one gives me goosebumps. Those worries, zipped up and tucked in tight...sigh. And the loneliness and at the same time comfort of a chilly night filled with stars...

  7. Tonight's poem will keep me company. I'll look for stars up in between the shaggy heads of the towering palms!

  8. This is a sweet, twisty, chewy kind of poem that will stay with me. I love the idea that the poem is not the stars placed in the November sky but the being doing the placing. Wonderful!

  9. That illustration is luminous and so is your poem.

  10. "Star placement is lonely work" - what a beautiful line... and yet, she sets each one, carefully, lovingly. So much to be grateful for in your poem. Thank you!
