Hello Poets,
Here we are at Friday again--Yay! My youngest is home from college, I've been enjoying the last spring break as a parent of a undergrad! I love that my kid is sleeping under my roof for a few days.
For this Poetry Friday, Molly challenged Inklings to write a hermit crab poem. This was a fun one! I took a triolet I wrote for Laura Shovan's 13th Annual February Poetry Project and turned it into data.
It was kinda fun to see a poem like this. I might try more "data" poems. Thank you, Margaret at Reflections on the Teche, for hosting our Poetry Friday round-up this weekend and getting our annual progressive poem rolling for this year.
Here's the original draft...

Oh, a data poem. I'm fascinated. I'll look forward to seeing others you write. Have a wonderful week with your youngest. What a treat!
ReplyDeleteI am loving this idea of hermit crab poems! So many possibilities. Now, using a graph as your “shell” – you are a girl after my own heart, Linda! And Pare is awfully close to Prune – which has a special place in my heart this year. : )
ReplyDeleteOh, that is cool--and it works only because of the repetition of your beloved triolet! I wonder how the graph would look if you disaggregated by word rather than phrase. I wonder how fun this would be to apply to other types of poems. I wonder I wonder I wonder about language, about poetry as DATA! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWell done! Such an interesting challenge. First data poem I've ever seen. So clever.
ReplyDeleteWow! I never would have thought of hermit-ing a poem and a graph, but now...oh, the possibilities!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love this approach! How cool to use a graph this way! Also, smart to revisit your previous poem in this new form. It's fun to see the two versions together. I'm totally wowed by all the cool things you all are doing with this form. Enjoy the time with your spring-break kid!
ReplyDeleteSeeing these hermit crab poems is so interesting! I never would have thought to use a bar graph, but now I love the idea!
ReplyDeleteYou inklings are a creative bunch! Love these poems - and you were definitely thinking outside of the box! Or, graph. Enjoy your time with your collegiate kiddo! :0)
ReplyDeleteSuch a creative application of the prompt, Linda! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a hermit crab poem so I learned something today and got to enjoy your wonderful poem!
ReplyDeleteHmm, nice twist of your original into the graph-poem, and I like the mostly analogous colors with the exception of one complement, thanks Linda!
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever, Linda — love it!
ReplyDeleteThis poetic form is such an interesting idea and your turning your poem into data form very clever. The poem seems “pared” down.
