Hello, hello, hello!
I was away last week with school librarians from my neck-of-the-woods. Hoo boy! Do we have a lot to talk about. Even chatting between sessions felt like sessions. It was cold and damp the day we met. I just want to be done with winter! I found myself saying.
Today, we are finished with Winter. Hooray! That's what led to today's mess of a poem draft. Even though this draft is not finished...I kind of like it because it's not finished. There's more to do in this windy, budding, rain and shine season.
I think this poem has legs. There's figurative language, imagery and some playful use of white space. However, I'm not yet happy with how it hangs together. I'll be poking at it off and on -- a sort of raking the spring lawn of sticks and dead grass from winter -- until I am satisfied. For now, the first pass is blog ready. I hope to share a edited version in the future. Isn't contemplating process fun? I enjoy it!
Happy Poetry Friday and Happy Spring to my fellow northern hemisphere friends.
Have you gotten your hands on a copy of 'One Step Forward' by our own Marcie Flinchum Atkins yet? If not, get a copy right now! I've started it--and it's beautiful. My day job has irritatingly kept me from finishing it with a review for all of you.

“Puffy lamb clouds” and “Daffodil 🌼 dimples” how fantastically delightful, I want to step into this poem, marvelous Linda!!! And I’m with you no more winter or snow ❄️ bring on the spring flowers, thanks!!! 🌼🪻🌸
ReplyDelete"silly splishing and sploshy splashing" - What fun! Your poem brings to mind E. E. Cummings' In Just. Thank you for sharing the wonder of spring's first day.
ReplyDeleteLove your happy spring poem -- what fun wordplay and vivid images. More please. :)
ReplyDeleteThe sounds in this poem are so fun... what a great read-aloud! I hope you enjoy the revision process... and I'd love to see how this evolves! (Process posts are great!)
ReplyDeleteLinda, as you revise, I hope you don't lose the exuberance, and please keep at least some of the messy splishing. Those qualities seem to echo spring's riot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun springy poem. I love how the form helps it bounce on the page. I've got to start Marcie's book soon.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the beautiful spring images in your poem. You really captured the season!
ReplyDeleteWords and layout combine with excellent synchronicity to deliver a poem that is a spring filled wonder, while resisting the buffeting of the wind. Well done, Linda. Atmospheric elements abound.
ReplyDeleteThis poem DEFINITELY has legs! Those "puffy lamb clouds" pulled me in and I was enchanted all the way through April's splishing and splashing!
ReplyDeleteThere is SO much to love about this poem. I love all of the fun play! Daffodil dimples and sloshy splashing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my book. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
"Puffy lamb clouds" — perfect.
ReplyDeleteMessiness and spring go together (as messiness and writing do...) I love this, Linda.
And I love this metaphor for revision: "a sort of raking the spring lawn of sticks and dead grass from winter." Yes!
Linda, your "puffy lamb clouds"bring spring to life. Your poem is delightful and perfect for the opening of spring. Carry on-I can't wait for more!
