Spiritual Thursday May 7

Hello Friends,

This quarantine is tiresome. I'm ready to be done. And, I realize I'm fortunate to be able to say that for me the worst is tiresome. I am well. My family is well. We are doing our best to distance and stay well. Even still, this pandemic is wearing.

Recently, The American Academy of Poets held a virtual Poetry Reading. I registered even though I wasn't sure I would participate. But, I opened my computer and was completely and happily connected to a vast community of poets and people who love poetry reading poems aloud around the world.

The program was beautiful. You can watch it here: https://poets.org/shelter-poems

The carefully selected poems were stunning. I found myself grabbing paper to scribble lines --even though the poems are online for all to read and see.

This hour of poetry was really beautiful...and made me appreciate what I have including health and safety. I hope it does for you as well. Enjoy the anthology.

My favorite from the evening:

The House Was Quiet and The World Was Calm

  1. Oh, many thanks for the link, Linda. I have been trying to keep up with the many wonderful opportunities to stay connected but always seem to fall asleep with my computer in my hand, Linda. We all need to feel a spark of joy. For some reason, the lightbulb turned on today. I am full of spirit and joy; the sun is shining; I'm listening to Celion Dion sing The Prayer, and communicating with you my friend. May your life be filled with peace and joy.

    1. That's wonderful, Carol! I had some low moments earlier this week. Music was key to lifting my spirits. Peace and joy back to you.

  2. Linda: Thank you so much for this post and the link to Wallace Stevens' poem. I love it. It reminds me of a moment (this may seem weird) watching the beautiful reflections of water on the Verrazano Bridge. Some moments make a deep impression. Peace to you in these tiresome times... 1. Yes...isn't that the truth? Some moments, seemingly insignificant, are so memorable.

  4. Linda, I was nodding my head in agreement with your words, "This quarantine is tiresome." My sentiments exactly!
I'm so glad you wrote about the virtual poetry reading at The Academy of American Poets last week. It was an evening I looked forward to all last week, a delightful evening of connecting with the power of poetry. I intended to write about it for Poetry Friday, but the day got away from me (maybe b/c I spent it with two of my grandsons).
    Thanks for providing the links.
