Happy Thanksgiving

Poets,

I'm grateful to this community of writers and readers. I always want to write much more than I do. Life has a way of keeping that from happening. But, Poetry Friday gives me a weekly goal of writing something worth sharing...even if only in draft form. It is a good habit and I thank you for being my accountability partner.

Our friend, Ruth, is hosting this week's round-up from her far away corner of the world. I'm thankful for that. This long weekend has been important for me to catch up on many things.

Last week, Ruth asked us to consider surprises.

The word on Word's padlet is now...simple, small, and, sincere.

  2. One granddaughter has pumpkin pie for her birthday, she's so in love with it, Linda. I'll certainly share your poem with her! I don't think she's ever imagined it as her hero but now she will! Love that 'confetti sky' that we've had for the recent weeks!

  3. Good morning, Linda! Yes, pumpkin pie (although, and it turns out maybe unpopularly, I do enjoy the turkey), but I'll take mine without the crust, please. Your menu of poems is delicious: "confetti skyline," "not butchered bird or gizzard gravy stew," and I hadn't been to the padlet in a while--WOW what a collection. I'm filled with admiration for what you accomplish and how!

  4. OOOH. That confetti sky. That's utterly lovely. I hope you had a lovely pie - we had Candy Roaster squash custard with a broiled coconut topping, and I could eat that out of the pan with a spoon. If we keep telling ourselves it's just squash, it's FINE, right? IT'S FINE!!!

  6. The confetti, the pie, and the son back home -- all perfect small moments, captured and held.

  7. Linda, I am with you with pumpkin as a hero at the table. I spent days roasting pumpkins and trying out different delicacies for my Thanksgiving table. Perhaps, we will have time to talk and eat pumpkin bread, cookies, and pie. I truly loved your padlet poem with its emphasis on breathing fresh air in thanksgiving. May you continue to delight us with your poems and padlet.

  8. I echo my praise into that 'confetti skyline', Linda. I so wish I was a fan of your hero...I lean toward her cousin apple pie. (Mr. Turkey is for our guests, it'll be all sides for me tomorrow.) Yay, for your son's return. I look forward to that 'easier breath' next month when my girls come for a visit. Enjoy your blessings. :)

  10. I love both of these, Linda. Triolets are one of my favorite forms, and you've done lovely work with this one.

  11. I'm always grateful for poetry friends like you who make me see the world afresh. I will enjoy the "ticker tape parade" as I walk around Capitol Hill today. (and if you substitute "apple" for "pumpkin," I'm all in on the pie poem too!)

  12. I love pie, too. This year I made a pecan-pumpkin pie as an experiment. It was a success. I share your gratitude for the PF community. It helps motivate me to write because it's such a great and respectful audience.

  14. Linda, happy Thanksgiving! Here's to pumpkin pie, with leftovers to last a few days. I have had two pieces so far, and there are two more in the fridge. Yummy! Love the autumn surprise of the confetti skyline in your first poem. I'm so glad your Poetry Friday community keeps you writing! You are a blessing!

  15. Oh, that confetti skyline! Gorgeous. Our daughter Maddie made both a pumpkin pie and a chocolate pecan pie for Thanksgiving. I'm not a fan of either, but they were well received by the rest of the family :>D Love your pumpkin pie hero!
